The World of Adventure

Jim Hyde founded RawHyde Adventures in 2002 as an off-road motorcycle training facility at his ranch in California and for many years the ranch was where adventure riders came to learn how to ride big Adventure Bikes in an off-road setting. They learned how to climb steep hills, ride deep sand and conquer obstacles (and their fears) while at the same time developing “the judgement” necessary to keep themselves safe in the backcountry!

In 2008 RawHyde became BMW’s official training center in Southern California and over the past quarter century has provided rider training to thousands of riders. In partnership with BMW, RawHyde evolved into the premier ADV Moto training center in the U.S. and a global player in the ADV touring market. Over the last 20 years the company hosted tours in Africa, Iceland, Scandinavia, and many tours in South America from Peru to Patagonia.

In early 2026 Jim sold the company to a long-time RawHyde team member and coach Eric Sachs but is still with the company in the form of an advisor and the trip leader for international tours, but with a little more time on his hands he can pursue some other endeavors. And so the saga continues and The World of Adventure is the tool through which the next chapter will unfold. As mentioned above, Jim is currently leading all of RawHyde’s International tours himself now — and has modified many of the Moto routes to be suitable for the “Overland World,” thereby creating adventures for 4x4 enthusiasts and using this site to share where he is going and what he has learned.

Two kinds of adventures live here side by side. ADV Moto expeditions are the two-wheel journeys, starting with Patagonia next March, The Salt Road in Italy next May and Greece in September! The Overlanding expeditions are 4x4 trips beginning in February of ’27 with a 4x4 expedition in Patagonia and very probably a 4x4 Overland tour of the Continental Divide in the summer of ’27!

Along with all the trips, this website will be a resource for cool new products coming into both markets. Jim will be sharing motorcycle and overland product overviews from the kit he has actually used or is planning to use… and on top of that we have a link on this page to the brand new “Moto Storage” facility we’re building so that folks can keep a bike in California if they live abroad, or simply want access to the wonderful riding opportunities that California offers!

And lastly we have our “for sale page” with Overland Vehicles, motorcycles, camping gear, and other adventure stuff that we have accumulated over the years.
